QUESTION 36

If 3A = 4B = 5C =6D & A+B+C+D =1026, find the value of A.

  1. 360
  2. 180
  3. 300
  4. 250

Answer: 1

Solution:

Substitute these into the sum $A+B+C+D=1026$ :

$\frac{k}{3}+\frac{k}{4}+\frac{k}{5}+\frac{k}{6}=1026$

Find the least common multiple (LCM) of the denominators ( 3,4,5,6). The LCM is 60 .

Multiply the entire equation by 60 to eliminate the fractions:

$60\left(\frac{k}{3}\right)+60\left(\frac{k}{4}\right)+60\left(\frac{k}{5}\right)+60\left(\frac{k}{6}\right)=60(1026)$

$20 k+15 k+12 k+10 k=61560$

$57 k=61560$

$k=\frac{61560}{57}=1080$

Now, substitute the value of k back into the expression for A :

$A=\frac{k}{3}=\frac{1080}{3}=360$
